We Will Make History Together
The Owerri Cultural Association (OCA) was founded to preserve our heritage and strengthen community bonds. What began as small family gatherings has grown into a united organization rooted in culture, support, and shared progress. Through events, outreach, and mutual care, OCA brings members together and continues to thrive by honoring tradition and fostering a strong, connected community.
Joining the Owerri Cultural Association (OCA)
To join OCA, you must be an Owerri indigene, a spouse, child, or parent of a member residing in Northern California. Members must pay a $150 registration fee and monthly dues, attend meetings, and maintain financial good standing. Those living outside Northern California may join but must still meet financial obligations and attend the anniversary.
Member Responsibilities & Attendance Expectations
OCA members are expected to stay actively engaged in the association’s activities. Attendance is mandatory, and missing five consecutive meetings without an approved reason—such as illness, military duty, or overseas travel—results in automatic termination of membership. Members must notify the Publicity Secretary ahead of time if they cannot attend. These expectations promote unity, accountability, and consistent participation in community matters.
Financial Obligations & Community Support Benefits
Members help sustain the association through monthly dues, levies, and the required registration fee. Maintaining good financial standing ensures eligibility for OCA benefits, including support for childbirth, weddings, bereavement, and certain insurance provisions. These contributions directly fund the Association’s ability to provide meaningful assistance and preserve cultural values during important life events.
